The Guidance Programme in our school Involves looking after the Career, Educational and Social/Personal needs of all students.

Career needs

Helps students become aware of themselves and career interests, this is facilitated through:

  • Timetabled classes
  • Individual consultation with students and parents
  • Personal profiling
  • Completion of aptitude tests and interest inventories
  • Career investigation
  • Work experience
  • Career exhibitions/ open days/ taster programmes
  • Guest Speakers

Educational need

Helps students with issues such as:

  • Subject choice
  • Subject level
  • Advice on programme advancement
  • Advice on progression beyond second level education
  • Exam preparation
  • Stress management
  • Mindfulness

This is facilitated through:

  • Timetabled classes
  • Individual appointment
  • Relevant outside agencies

Social/ Personal needs

Facilitated through:

  • Help students become integrated into second level
  • Help with the various transitions in a young person’s life
  • Help students to cope with any problems or pressures they may be experiencing
  • Group work
  • Individual consultation and counselling with Chaplain and Guidance Counsellor
  • SPHE and Guidance Classes
  • Appropriate contact with relevant outside agencies
